Port-based VLANs (isolate your clients). QoS Assurance on different traffic types. Internet Content Filtering and Optional VigorCare Available (see accessories). The DrayTek Vigor 2760 supports all variants of mass-market DSL technology available, so if you have ADSL today it will work with that, but if VDSL comes to your area later, you're ready, already.
VDSL is available from BT under their'Infinity' service, providing downstream speeds of up to 80Mb/s. Other ISPs are also starting to introduce it across the country so coverage continues to increase. Most of us are still mostly using IPv4 as our Internet protocol (the system that gives us IP addresses like 18.104.22.168) but that's going to change; over the next few years, IPv6 will increase in usage and eventually we'll all be using IPv6, thuis DrayTek Vigor2760 already supports it - and both IPv4 and IPv6 can be run simultaneously (dual-stack). The content control features of the DrayTek Vigor 2760 allow you to set restrictions on web site access, blocking download of certain file or data types, blocking specific web sites with whitelists or blacklists, blocking IM/P2P applications or other potentially harmful or wasteful content.
Restrictions can be per user, per PC or univeral. Using DrayTek's GlobalView service, you can block whole categories of web sites e. , subject to an annual subscription to the Globalview service, which is continuously updated with new or changed site categorisations or sites which have become compromised (such as infected with Malware).
A free 30-day trial is included with your new router. Please see the accessories tab for annual subscriptions. The DrayTek Vigor 2760's USB ports can host a compatible 3G modem or cellphone for access to the cellular network for full Internet Access.
Most UK networks now provide high speed HSDPA data connections at up to 3.6Mb/s download speed. The 3G connection can be used as your primary/only Internet access, or as backup to your main ADSL/Fibre line connection. This is not only ideal for homes or offices which don't want to pay fixed line + broadband rental, but also for temporary locations, or those to where fixed lines aren't available.
DrayTek Vigor 2760 compatible 3G USB. The DrayTek Vigor 2760's USB ports can also be used to add storage memory to the unit in the form of a USB memory key or for higher capacity a USB hard drive (normally requires its own power). The DrayTek Vigor 2760 then provides FTP access file uploading/downloading which can be from the local LAN or from anywhere on the Internet - ideal for a simple to deploy file depository.Access can be'public' or using usernames and passwords, each of which can have their own directories and/or file access rights. As well as FTP, file sharing is available as a Windows'network drive'. LAN: 4-port Gigabit (10/100/1000 Base-T). USB: 2 USB 2.0 Ports (for printer, storage and 3G). Working in a very similar way to a conventional broadband except that the internet is accessed over the 3G network.
Most 3G routers use a 3G USB modem, often provided by a mobile network provider, so please ensure your 3G USB modem is compatible. Share your 3G broadband via Ethernet or wireless. Share peripherals such as printers to create a complete mobile office. Stay connected throughout the world with 3G broadband, 3G and GPRS. Ideal for builders or building sites requiring temporary broadband internet access on-site / Portacabins.
Temporary internet access at exhibitions. Ideal for users unable to get conventional adsl or cable broadband. Perfect for temporary locations, as an alternative to fixed line broadband solutions. The industry is seeing an increasing uptake of 3G USB dongles and sticks and even the stalwart 3G PCMCIA/PC Card is being used to take advantage of the improving performance of the 3G networks. Most networks are headlining up to 7.2 Mbps for their mobile broadband and the infrastructure will eventually allow speeds of 14.4 Mbps. However the reality is a little different, and is very much dependant on the coverage in your particular area. London and other major cities are offering the best 3G coverage, with download speeds reported in the 2 Mbps - 3 Mbps bracket and with HSUPA, upload speeds increase to 1 Mbps, comparing reasonably favourably with the fixed line performance of ADSL and cable. Coverage and speed is only set to improve as the 3G operators turn up the wick on their networks, although as more users sign up contention (the amount of users sharing the same bandwidth) will be an issue, just as it is for fixed line connectivity. The introduction of 3G routers into the market is an exciting trend, as this allows users to create their own portable hotspot, in effect sharing their 3G connection wirelessly ideal for applications with either expensive internet access or no fixed line internet access at all, such as an exhibition or show, a hotel room or holiday let, or even out on the road. Many businesses are taking advantage of routers that integrate Autofailover technology. If the fixed line ADSL goes down, the device will automatically fail over to the 3G network, and switch back to ADSL when the line is back up. As 3G products penetrate the business market, so SLAs and managed services for 3G connectivity become increasingly important.
Most operators now offer fixed IP options on a 3G SIM, which allows for bandwidth management, diagnostic tools and even secure private networking (VPN). In many countries around the world, especially in Scandanavia, 3G connectivity is available in the home and office at a price and at a speed that matches many standard UK fixed line packages. As the 3G operators remain committed to improving the performance of their networks, the trend towards 3G connectivity in the UK is only set to continue.
