Com, as soon as it was released in November 2017, only to be offered, two months later, an upgrade to G. Fast 300 by BT and, of course, this router's modem is not compatible! Which is a bummer because it performs flawlessly with Infinity 2, maximising my connection, delivering a consistent 5Ghz signal around my flat (I don't use 2.4), both my Apple and Android toys living in harmony and throwing packets at each other over a rock solid network. Draytek is a prosumer brand offering stability, performance and advanced customisation for a secure, reliable and fast network, the price to pay being a rather complex interface which is not for the faint of heart. However, once set up, people generally forget that there is a router in the house until new standards become available like this g.

A couple of weeks ago I had a network downtime, I called BT, they started with the usual: we don't support 3rd party equipment blah blah blah only to admit, three minutes later, that the issue was not with my router (which is BT SIN 498 MCT approved) but their copper. And that was the only time when I actually logged on to check the status page, after the initial setup.

No resets, no restarts, no freezes, no bugs, no downtime. It works 24/7, I run big raw photo backups in the cloud, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Tidal without a glitch. The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router is a brand new flagship router/firewall which supports both ADSL or VDSL (BT Infinity/FTTC) and is packed with professional level features to increase security, flexibility and functionality, making it ideal as your standard router for almost any scenario. This rayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router includes support for other professional features such as VLAN tagging, QoS (Quality of Service Assurance), High Availability, DNS Filter, Policy Based Routing, and User Access Control.

If you deploy DrayTek Wireless Access Points, the rayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router can act as the Central Management controller. Supports VDSL2, ADSL, 3G/4G and Ethernet-based Broadband.

Wireless LAN Features: 802.11g/b/n and 802.11ac. 4-WAN Simultaneous: VDSL/ADSL, Ethernet and dual optional USB 3G/4G. Rack mounting kit NOT included.

DrayTek Firewall with huge flexibility. 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet LAN Switch. Up to 8 Private LAN Subnets. Larger Subnets - up to 1022 IPs per subnet (LAN1-3).

Content Filtering (by keyword, data type or category). LDAP Integration for VPN and user access.

QoS (Layer 2 and 3, 802.1p and TOS/DCSP). Up to 32 VPN tunnels for LAN-to-LAN or teleworkers.

VPN Trunk/Backup to remote sites. SSL VPN - Tunnel or Proxy (16 users). USB Port for Printer, memory stick or 3G/4G/LTE Modem.

Optional VigorCare Available (not included). Runs on either ADSL or VDSL. The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router's built in DSL interface will connect to either an ADSL or VDSL2 line. If you have a second line (of either type) you can add an additional modem (or your existing modem from your other line) to the DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router's Ethernet WAN ports. You can set the two lines up in load balancing mode, where traffic is split across both of them, or into failover mode, where the other DSL line only kicks-in if your primary DSL line fails (or vice versa).

ADSL makes a particularly good method of failover for VDSL because they are delivered differently. VDSL service is provided and powered by a cabinet in your street - that's where the line terminates. That means that if your street's VDSL cabinet is damaged, its DSLAM fails or you lose power to your street, you lose VDSL, but your ADSL line comes via a different method and route, so it's less likely that both would be affected. Security is always taken seriously with the DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router.

The firewall protects against attacks including DoS (Denial of Service) attacks, IP-based attacks and access by unauthorised remote systems. Wireless, Ethernet and VPN are also protected by various protection systems. The DrayTek object-based firewall allows even more setup flexibility than ever, enabling you to create combinations of users, rules and restrictions to suit multi-departmental organisations.

The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router also allows selective direction firewall rules of LAN to WAN, WAN to LAN or LAN to VPN. IPv6 - Next Generation Internet Routing. The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router supports IPv6 - the successor to the current IPv4 addressing system that has been used since the Internet was first created.

IPv4 address space is full up and IPv6 allows for much more efficient routing and a larger address space. IPv6 is supported both from your own ISP, but if your ISP does not (yet) support IPv6, the DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router also supports IPv6 broker/tunnel services to provide IPv6 access using either TSPC or AICCU via 3rd party IPv6 providers. To learn all about IPv6, you can get our detailed guide to IPv6 here and you can view the IPv6 detailed support in the product specification tab. The content control features of the DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router allow you to set restrictions on web site access, blocking download of certain file or data types, blocking specific web sites with whitelists or blacklists, blocking IM/P2P applications or other potentially harmful or wasteful content.

Restrictions can be per user, per PC or universal and according to time schedules. Content filtering can also block sites using HTTPS/SSL where URLs are encrypted (and normal routers cannot block). Using the GlobalView service, you can block whole categories of web sites e.

, subject to an annual subscription, which is continuously updated with new or changed site categorisations or sites which have become compromised (such as infected with Malware). 30-day trial is included with your new router. WAN Load Balancing and backup. The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router features multiple methods of WAN connectivity - ADSL/VDSL, Ethernet, USB port for connection of a 3G/4G modem, optional built-in 3G/4G or (on wireless models) and Wireless WAN. The Ethernet port can connect to a second ADSL/VDSL modem e. Vigor 130, a cable modem or any other Ethernet-based Internet feed. The multiple WAN interfaces can be used either for WAN-Backup or Load-Balancing. WAN-Backup provides contingency (redundancy) in case of your primary ADSL line or ISP suffering temporary outage.

Internet Traffic will be temporarily routed via the secondary Internet access. When normal service is restored to your primary line, all traffic is switched back to that. The RM1 Rackmount Bracket enables you to fit any Vigor 2862ac series router into a standard 19 rack or cabinet.

The bracket (NOT INCLUDED) takes up one rack slot (1U) and includes a cable retainer at the back to keep the power cord captive. The front mounted sockets of the router remain fully accessible. USB Port for Ad-Hoc Storage/Logging. The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router's USB port can also be used to add storage memory to the unit in the form of a USB memory key (as shown right). The Vigor 2862ac then provides FTP access file uploading/downloading which can be from the local LAN or from anywhere on the Internet - ideal for a simple to deploy file depository.

If you do have a USB memory key connected, you can also have the router save its system logs (syslog) to that memory instead of to a connecting computer; useful for technical personnel (SysAdmins). The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router has two USB ports. VPN - Linking remote offices, HQ, teleworkers and mobile staff.

A feature central to DrayTek routers is its VPN (Virtual Private Networking) capabilities. A VPN enables you to link remote offices and branch offices back to HQ, or home-based/mobile teleworkers back to your office. Once connected, they have access to your office/remote resources through a secure encrypted tunnel allowing remote desktop, file sharing and seamless access to other resources and devices. The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router allows you to have up to 32 simultaneous VPN tunnels to remote offices or teleworkers. It supports all common industry standard protocols, including encryption and authentication methods.

Teleworkers can authenticate directly with your LDAP server if preferred. The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router supports VPN trunking; this allows you to create tunnels down muliple WAN connections to a remote site in order to increase bandwidth.

VPN trunking also provides failover (backup) of your VPN route down a secondary WAN connection. You can learn more about DrayTek VPN here.

Teleworkers can also use 2FA (Two factor authentication) such as MOTP. The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router also supports SSL VPN. These are encrypted tunnels linking your teleworker back to your main office but they are'clientless in that your O/S does not need to generate the tunnel and you do not need to install any VPN software manually. The DrayTek 2862ac Quad-WAN ADSL2+/VDSL2+ Broadband Router can operate SSL VPNs in either Proxy or full tunnel mode and allows up to 16 simultaneous incoming users. For SSL VPN tunnel mode Windows OS, Mac OS X, Apple iOS and Android are supported. The SSL VPN server can additionally be used for site to site VPN tunnels, connecting branch offices to a main office across a TLS encrypted HTTPS tunnel, which can be more secure than PPTP and is simpler to configure than an IPsec VPN tunnel.
